Some things to consider when using powered sugar for monitoring Varroa mites.

Be sure your queen is not on the frames you take your bees from.
Get screen that is the correct gage or the mites will not pass through, window screen does not work. Save the screen if you get package bees it is a good gage for this. Use wide mouth canning jars and utility scissors for cutting the screen using the flat lid as a template.
During a humid weather keep the powered sugar in a container with Damp-Rid so it doesn't get lumpy and sift the sugar the day you are using it for best results.
When the bees have nectar in their crop, the sugar gets wet and the jars get ugly so you may want to bring more than one jar to your bee yard.
